There is great disparity in the living conditions for the people of El Salvador, Central America. The majority of people who live in poverty have no running water, electricity, or access to medicine and education. Children lucky enough to attend school have to walk miles through hills that are difficult for even a 4-wheel-drive truck to maneuver. Some children are unable to attend school at all.
In response to this, SQ Foundation has provided the necessary funds to build a school for a small community in a remote section of a mountain named "The Eagle" in Juayua, El Salvador. The community is made up of 45 families and has about 70-80 children. Together, with the help of local workers, the school was completed and officially opened in April 2008. They have since added bathrooms for the children and a sleeping room for the teacher, who previously slept on the floor. A medical clinic has also been established and doctors visit the community once a month.
Beginning in May 2009, SQ Foundation began supporting 2 new communities. C.D.E Canton Los Canales and Centro Escoliar Caserio San Jorge both required funds to improve the conditions of their schools. By providing the means for running water, teaching tools, adequate school supplies and safer facilities, SQ has supported a healthier and improved growing experience for the children of El Salvador.
