The Mangalakara School for orphaned and underprivileged children needs our support as they have been experiencing a prolonged drought over the last 4 years. The summer of 2016 was very hot in Andhra Pradesh and there was no water in the lakes and rivers.  Most villages were out of drinking water, reliant on tankers that were few and far between.  In the towns and villages, the local government banned all new bore-well drilling or any further increasing of depth of them, as they were concerned about the under-ground water getting contaminated or depleted further.  As you can imagine, this has caused immense problems for everyone. Even so, the local farmers are ploughing and planting crops in the hopes that things will improve and their crops will survive.
This February we received an update informing us that the drought situation has become severe in Andhra Pradesh, as the monsoon rain has failed for the last 2 years. The trees are slowly dying, and they are having to bring in tankers of water daily to keep everything going, as they barely had enough water in the bore-well for the children’s basic needs.  A few days ago, by the grace of God, when after a number of days and all night drilling of three x 500ft drilling attempts, they struck a reasonable amount of water on the last well. Everyone especially the children were jumping with joy when the news came at 4am.  Now they are asking everyone to please pray that this year’s monsoon season is good, otherwise, there will be no crops and the rural population will go through untold hardships once again, adding to their already meagre existence.
What can we do to help?
It is truly our grace to be able to help these children live a healthier and happier life.  They are in need of financial donations to support their basic needs.  If you would like to make a donation, please go to the www.sq-foundation.org and click on Empower A Child Campaign 2016.
